Mimic Octopus

I just love stuff like this. An octopus that can change shape and color to look like a ray, a poisonous sea snake, a spiny lionfish, and more. Incredible.

Somebody’s Getting Defensive…

So vegans have been saying for years how cow’s milk is actually kinda gross once you think about it (blood and pus and all). A lot of this is motivated by animal-rights agenda, and a lot of it is just because we really can’t stand the stuff. Maybe some of us resort to the childish “eww gross” tactic out of defensiveness when a friend boasts about their love for fluid that came from another animal’s nipple. Well, look who’s defensive now…

Big Dairy’s new smear campaign is so hilarious to me that I am happy to share it here (no charge, Dairy Council, or whoever the fuck you are). Above, please witness the desperation exhibited in a print ad meant to make cow’s milk seem more desirable than the other freak milks. “Eww, the color is weird!” “Gross, there’s stuff on the bottom!” “Huh? That’s a long word!” “Eww, the color is the same, but it’s not from a cow!”

Keep up the good work, Milk Board (maybe- I don’t care enough to investigate who is actually behind this genius campaign). Either you truly believe that your customer base is dumb enough to think that color and additional ingredients are deal-breakers, or you’re showing people that there are tasty-sounding alternatives to your outdated product. This smacks of fear, and I am savoring it. Can’t you just imagine the suits seeing a new alternative pop up every week and pissing themselves? Ohhhhhh….. it feels so good to realize that these guys are starting to understand that they are fighting a losing war…. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…….

But that’s not even the best one. You gotta see this ad. “What!?!? You have to shake it? Ludicrous!!” Enjoy:

NutritionFacts.org is Up

I got to see Dr. Michael Greger speak recently at VegFest. It was the highlight of the day for me, and I was really excited to hear that he would soon be launching NutritionFacts.org where he would post a new video every day about the latest studies in health and nutrtion. The site has been launched, and there are already nearly 300 videos up from Greger’s popular lecture series. Now, these videos don’t do him justice, and you should definitely try to see him speak if you can, but it is amazing to see this wealth of information available online.

Here’s what he does. Greger spends his days poring over medical journals to get honest up-to-date information on nutrition studies and discoveries. In his videos, he breaks the latest medical information down into terms that we can all understand. This is great for people who want to know what is new in the medical world, and since the studies are in peer-reviewed medical journals, we can be confident that the info is legit. Each video is just a few minutes, and there are some really surprising ones. My favorite one isn’t up yet. At VegFest he did a section about how larger bowel movements are a sign of health, and vegans have the biggest BMs. Maybe not something to brag about, but… you know how dudes are. But you can watch videos on brain parasites in meat, protein & puberty, and the fecal bacteria survey, among other gems. The video above is about eliminating the #1 cause of death in the U.S., heart disease. It’s good, but man I can’t wait for the one about how vegan moms’ sons have bigger penises. Seriously, he talked about that too.

Pig Abuse at Iowa Select Farms

WARNING: This video contains extremely disturbing imagery.

Mercy For Animals’ latest undercover investigation documents conditions and practices at Iowa Select Farms, the nation’s 4th largest pork producer, between April and June 2011. As a result of this investigation, and the large amount of media attention it received, most of the major clients of Iowa Select have stopped buying pork from them. Costco, Safeway, and Kroger have all stated that they have stopped carrying Iowa Select pork.

This investigation was covered on ABC News, The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, the Associated Press, and many other news outlets. Millions of people saw the truth about Iowa Select’s cruel day-to-day practices. Within days of the footage being released, the major grocers made the change to stop selling Iowa Select pork. This shows the power of undercover investigations into animal operations.

This video is too good not to share! A blogger from vegansaurus asks “Does this have what it takes to go vegan viral?“… I think it does!
