Bake Sales For Animals!

At the end of April, Plants and Animals volunteers hosted several bake sales benefiting various Animal Rescue or Relief non profits. Two of which were hosted in one day. On April 27th four volunteers from Denver drove up to Boulder and held a vegan bake sale on the Pearl Street Mall to benefit Wild Animal Sanctuary. Wild Animal Sanctuary is an amazing facility here in Colorado that’s been devoted to rescuing and offering refuge to large animals; including lions, tigers, and yes, bears. Not to mention jaguars, wolves, and some amazing resident dogs. We were able to raise a little over $50 for the organization; we expect a much better turn out next year!

The second bake sale on April 27th was in downtown Denver, in front of the amazing store Fancy Tiger Crafts. This bake sale did extremely well. We are happy to report we were able to raise $390 for the Japanese Non Profit, Japanese Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support. This organization has worked tirelessly since the major earthquakes in Japan on March 11th of this year. There were many animals displaced during these catastrophes, some may never see their owners again. Sadly the Japanese government was only waiting a short period of time before putting any “unclaimed” pets down. JEARS has been able to foster and care for many animals in hopes that they may find their families or even a new home. We hope that with the generosity of the amazing folks who bought our delicious vegan baked goods as well as the volunteers who slaved over their ovens to provide said snacks, that we can help sustain a few more displaced animals.

We plan on having similar sales next year, and hope we can raise even more money for these amazing non profits! But just to focus on the food for a moment, because that’s what I do; I was so impressed with the level of treats we were able to produce! We had delectable gluten free cookies, mouthwatering cashew cream truffles, rice crispy squares, peanut butter brownies, delicate palmiers, chocolate oatmeal espresso cookies, peanut butter jelly cookies, and like three types of muffins! Thank you amazing volunteers and supporters!
