We’ve decided to make carrotmobs a monthly P&A event. Our first one at Hi Rise Bakery was successful and got a good response, so let’s see if we can get some committed vegans to get together every second Saturday of the month. We’ll start small, but with your help, over time we can make our monthly carrotmob the sort of thing that businesses fight for. The possibilities are there, so let’s get to the details on carrotmob #2: Sheesemob.
Sheese is a gourmet vegan cheese product that comes from Scotland. With a firm texture reminiscent of actual cow-cheese, it is available in 9 varieties. I have tried the cheddar, which was fantastic, and I have heard that the gouda is unreal. Why haven’t you seen it before? It’s a bit tricky to find. In fact, the only place I know of that carries Sheese may be a bit of a surprise: Ahimsa Footwear. Yup. Colorado’s only all-vegan boutique has vegan cheese in addition to a huge selection of shoes, bags, books, hats, and accessories. If you’ve been meaning to check out Ahimsa, here’s your chance to do it with us.
The great thing about this sort of event is that you can show up late if you want. The main goal is to create a visual and monetary uptick in a business’ traffic. Hopefully you can come with the mob at 1pm so we can get some good photos of vegan buying power, and use them to build momentum for future carrotmobs. But if you can’t make it at that time, your Sheese purchase that day will surely go noticed, and your contribution to the mob will be counted (the shop is open from 12-5 on Saturdays). This is a way to thank Ahimsa for providing a great product and store for vegans. It gives us a reason to get together. And it helps us show off our numbers. Positive activism.
Future P&A carrotmobs could have the potential to influence veg-friendly business practices. That is where we really want to get to- the point where we can dangle the reward (a big influx of revenue and positive attention) in front of a few competing businesses. The winner, who does the most for our vegan objective, gets a big carrotmob and the notoriety of being a go-to spot on the map of the Denver vegan community. But before we get to that point, you gotta come buy some Sheese with us…
